Summer may be winding to a close and school may be returning, but Labor Day festivities are ramping up! This weekend, people throughout Oakland County will enjoy a welcome break to celebrate America’s workforce and the American Labor Movement.

If knights and castles are your thing, make sure to stop by the Michigan Renaissance Festival, which will be open in Holly throughout Labor Day Weekend. And for those in search of cotton candy, funnel cakes, and amusement park attractions, the Michigan State Fair in Novi is the place to be.

Style and Tradition at the Woodward Dream Cruise

Start your engines! The Woodward Dream Cruise, Southeast Michigan’s premier classic car celebration, is back for its 22nd year. Automobiles of all ages and types will hit the road on Saturday, August 19 for the annual cruise, stretching from Ferndale to Pontiac. Although the festivities run from Friday, August 18, through Sunday, August 20, classic cars can be seen around Metro Detroit all week when the weather is nice.

Whether you own a souped-up hotrod or simply admire the classics, there’s a place for you at the Dream Cruise. Spectators can stake out spots along the cruising route to set up chairs and tents.* Younger cruise-goers will love special pop-up events, like the Kids’ Inflatable Zone, which will be open from 6 – 9 p.m. on cruise day. Other special attractions, like the Rock’n Live Entertainment Stage in Ferndale and the Tri-Community Coalition Street Dance in Berkley make Friday’s Dream Cruise a can’t miss Oakland County event.

Summer Movies in the Park

Friendship blossoms between two dogs as they find their way back home; a ragtag team of misfits sidesteps authority to save the galaxy; three women combat prejudice and adversity to reach the stars; a group of local animals find their voice.

These hit films, The Secret Life of PetsRogue OneHidden Figures, and Singmake up the 2017 program for Rochester’s annual Movies in the Moonlight. The event, which runs for four consecutive Saturdays, beginning July 15th, is an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy movies that inspire, entertain, and provoke thought in viewers of all ages.

Community movie nights are a summer staple across Oakland County: from Southfield’s Movie Under the Stars at the Municipal Complex to Movie Nights in Milford’s Central Park. With so many movies and community settings to choose from, there’s something great for everyone.
