Fall Camping is S’more Fun!

Summer may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy outdoor recreation! Fall is a great time of year for camping, with cooler weather and beautiful fall foliage setting the scene for enjoyable days hiking, kayaking, and relaxing on cool nights by a crackling fire.

There’s something about stepping away from regular life and diving into nature that rejuvenates our spirit. In a world of alarms, phones, and laptops, our brain craves an escape where we can connect with the sights and sounds of nature. Luckily, you don’t need to plan a big excursion to Yosemite to enjoy the camping experience! Oakland County Parks boasts two fantastic campgrounds, Addison Oaks and Groveland Oaks, which transport visitors to a forest oasis, without needing to travel too far.

Enjoy a weekend waking up amid Michigan’s technicolor fall foliage. The only items on your agenda will be to enjoy hiking, fishing, biking, and exploring one of the unique recreation features like disc golf and mountain bike trails at Addison Oaks or miniature golf and a bike skills course at Groveland Oaks. Maybe all you’d like to accomplish is some birdwatching and reading! There’s no incorrect way to take a break and enjoy time in the great outdoors.

There’s still plenty of time to enjoy Addison Oaks and Groveland Oaks Campgrounds this season. Fall camping at Groveland Oaks runs through Oct. 6, and the season at Addison Oaks runs through Oct. 15. For information on amenities, rental cabins and yurts and reservations, visit our website.
