The Neighborhood and Housing Development Division hosted its end-of-the-year celebration at the newly constructed Raymond E. Shepherd House in Ferndale.
People from all levels of government, the private, and non-profit sectors were guided through Neighborhood and Housing Development’s success in building affordable housing through the Oakland Together Housing Trust Fund (HTF).
The Oakland County Board of Commissioners established the fund in 2022 to help increase the county’s inventory of affordable housing. Oakland County has leveraged $23.6 million from the HTF and other county funds to invest in the development of 649 mixed-income housing units, 438 of which are designated for lower incomes.
While the county isn’t building the homes, it is providing gap financing and other incentives to developers to include affordable housing options in their developments.
The Housing Trust Fund has allocated money to nine housing projects, including:
- Walton Oaks in Rochester Hills
- $500,000 for neuro-inclusive houses and apartments
- Auburn Oaks in Rochester Hills
- $1.2 million for neuro-inclusive houses and apartments
- Casa Del Ray in Pontiac
- $3 million for the renovation of the 50-unit apartment building for middle-income families
- Wellspring in Southfield
- $2.6 million for a 72-unit apartment building for people recovering from opioid misuse
- Royal Oak Cottages in Royal Oak Township
- $2.5 million for 32 homes for lower-income families
- Oakland Woods in Pontiac
- $3 million for the renovation of 216 units for older adults
- Westwood South in Pontiac
- $2.5 million for mixed-income families
The Neighborhood and Housing Development aims to build 4,380 affordable housing units by 2035.
