To wrap up summer, Oakland County’s Health and Human Services will host Health and Housing Summer Fest, a family fun and resource expo. The event is open to all Oakland County residents and will be held on Monday, Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Catalpa Oaks County Park, 27705 Greenfield Rd., Southfield. The fun-filled day is full of activities, helpful resources, and free health services. Activities include:
- *Bounce house, lawn games, and rock-climbing wall courtesy of Oakland County Parks & Recreation
- Free back-to-school materials while supplies last
- Bike, car seat, and breastfeeding accessories raffles
- Body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure screenings, and A1C and glucose testing with Honor Community Health clinicians
- Free glasses for those 4 – 21 years old from Vision To Learn, as long as supplies last
- Free dental and lead screenings for children
- Enroll in free health programs like Women, Infant, and Children (WIC), home-visiting nursing and Children’s Special Health Care Services
- Vaccine clinic for youth and adults
- Yoga and light movement activities led by Nature’s Playhouse
- Housing and breastfeeding support
- Community resources
*Socks are required to play in the bounce house and closed-toed shoes are required to use the rock-climbing walk.
In addition, to commemorate National Breastfeeding Month, guests can connect with breastfeeding support and resources. Breastfeeding parents can enter to win giveaways, talk with board-certified Lactation consultants and WIC breastfeeding peers, and access several other resources from community partners.
