New Animal Shelter Brings Exceptional Care to Oakland County Animals

Now in its new, centrally-located facility on the Oakland County Government Campus, it’s easier than ever to stop in and adopt a new furry family member. Several dogs and cats are waiting for “furever” homes. You can view pets before you go by using their Petfinder page. The friendly and knowledgeable staff is ready and waiting to answer questions and share tools for responsible pet ownership. If you’re not yet ready to adopt, become a volunteer and help walk dogs, comfort cats, and more. The Pet Adoption Center is open Monday – Friday, 10 am – 5 pm, and on Saturdays, 10 am – 4 pm.

Join shelter chief Joanie Toole on a virtual tour to see what has these animals wagging their tails:

Facility Upgrades

Opening its doors in the Fall of 2017, the Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center combines cutting-edge technology with compassionate care to deliver the best-possible service to animals in need.

Key facility upgrades include:

  • An outside air exchange
  • Separated dogs and cats
  • Air-conditioned kennels
  • Roomier kennels for the dogs
  • Industry-standard “cat condos”
  • Self-help kiosks, which offer 21st century customer service

Medical Facilities

The new Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center’s medical facilities feature onsite x-ray and dental care, so animals don’t have to leave the facility for treatment. There are more operating suites, and a quiet and calm recovery area for animals who have undergone treatment.

Play Time

There are also plenty of places to play at the new shelter! Outdoor play areas feature artificial turf, an agility course, and a walking path for visitors. And Kitty City is a great place to sit and relax while cats and kittens interact.

Be sure to stop by the new building and meet your new best friend soon! If you’d like to learn more, visit the Oakland County Animal Shelter & Pet Adoption Center on their website, or follow them on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
