Cranbrook Academy of Art, located in Bloomfield Hills, is one of the nation’s leading graduate schools of art, architecture, and design. The historic and beautiful 319-acre campus has been home to some of the world’s most renowned artists and features a world-class museum devoted exclusively to modern and contemporary art, design, and architecture. Cranbrook Academy of Art is like no other program in the country and was recently named one of the 15 top art schools in the U.S. Study at Cranbrook is based on the idea that Artists-in-Residence, their families, and students live and work in close proximity. Each year, just 75 students are invited to study and live on the landmark Saarinen-designed campus.

At this unique institution, ten Artists-in-Residence support individual exploration and mentoring of students within a graduate-only program. Without a set curricula, required classes, or prerequisites, study at Cranbrook Academy of Art centers on a rigorous studio-based practice of making, informed by intensive and regular critique, and the opportunity to observe and work with leading practitioners in their own studio environments.
The academy integrates life and work in a unique structure where they are blended together on the intimate residential campus. Dinners with visiting artists, late nights in the studio, outdoor critiques, walks on campus grounds with colleagues, and parties in the Cranbrook Art Museum allow for the physical community to match the intellectual one.
