Oakland County International Airport Open House and Air Show

The time has nearly arrived for the Oakland County International Airport Open House and Air Show. On Sunday, August 14th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., head over to the airport to view the dazzling spectacles of aviation in Oakland County.

The event features an abundance of awesome activities, from an air show put on by professional aviators to rides in helicopters and airplanes. In addition, attendees can peruse the airport grounds and learn about a classic World War II aircraft and a variety of military, commercial, and civilian air vehicles.

General admission for the event is entirely free for attendees. Thanks to a generous donation by Dick Moy, in honor of his late wife Sim Moy, there will be no charge for parking this year. If you are interested in experiencing the thrill of flying, airplane and helicopter rides are $45 per person.

Give Back with Operation Good Cheer at the Oakland County International Airport

An airplane hanger is filled with mountains of wrapped gifts and dozens of bicycles waiting to be loaded into airplanes for Operation Good Cheer.

Thank you for your interest in Operation Good Cheer. For the Oakland County Blog’s latest edition of Operation Good Cheer, see here.

Operation Good Cheer delivers nearly 20,000 gifts to more than 6,700 foster children across Michigan from their home base at the Oakland County International Airport. Every year, donors wrap and sort gifts from children’s wish lists which are then flown to 26 airports across the state. Agency workers then pick-up the gifts and deliver them to foster children in time for Christmas.

This year’s annual event takes place on December 7th and 8th at Pentastar Aviation. Operation Good Cheer is looking for volunteer ground-crew members, pilots, and planes (big or small) in addition to gifts and wrapping supplies. Register as a volunteer at the sign-up link below:

2018 Oakland County International Airport Open House and Air Show Spectacular

This past weekend, the 33rd Annual Oakland County International Airport Open House and Air Show was a spectacle to behold for aviation fans young and old! Thousands of attendees filled the airport grounds for a day of family fun with the crowd swelling to 20,000 people for the Air Show.

A highlight for many was the jaw-dropping 90-minute Air Show! Professional pilots took to the skies to awe the crowds with their vintage planes, death-defying aerobatic tricks, and three and four-plane formation stunts. The finale of the show was the “Homewrecker” Jet Engine Powered Ford F-450 Truck blasting flames and smoke down the runway before “launching” off at speeds of 300mph!

Watch a recap from the 2018 Oakland County International Airport Open House and Air Show below, and be sure to keep your eyes to the sky for this free annual event each summer!
