On Friday, October 7th, Oakland County Michigan Works!, in partnership with Oakland County, Oakland Schools, and Oakland Community College, hosted the first in-person Manufacturing Day since 2019. A total of 32 advanced manufacturing facilities in Oakland County opened their doors to more than 750 high school students from 17 school districts and four technical campuses.

This was the eighth year Oakland County has participated in National Manufacturing Day, designed to introduce students to the many in-demand, rewarding careers in modern manufacturing and the skilled trades. These include quality control, logistics, welding, design and engineering, maintenance, PLC robotics, mechatronics, metallurgy, metrology, and project management.

Oakland Community College: Oakland County College Connections

With five campuses throughout the county, over 100 degree and certificate programs, university transfer degrees in business, science, and the liberal arts, Oakland Community College (OCC) has extensive offerings for its students. More than one million students have enrolled since it opened in 1965.

Oakland Schools Technical Campuses (OSTC) is a learning destination, where purposeful learning is centered on students. It provides practical career technical education to high school students from Oakland County’s 28 public school districts, public academies, private learning institutions, and home schools. Students get to explore the direction they want to take, experience amazing opportunities, and prepare to excel in the real world.

Career training and skill development takes place at one of four, state-of-the-art, multi-million dollar technical campuses in Oakland County. OSTC offers high school and college credit, national industry certifications, personalized instruction, awesome teachers, paid internships, student leadership opportunities, scholarships, and access to National Manufacturing Day events.
