Rochester College: Oakland County College Connections

Rochester College is a four-year liberal arts college in Rochester Hills, Michigan that offers challenging academics within an inclusive christian community. Curriculum is focused on academic excellence, principled character, servant leadership, and global awareness. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered, as well as athletics and specialty programs that include studying abroad, honors programs, and more.

The college sits on a beautiful 80-acre suburban campus that’s nestled along the Clinton River Trail and overlooks the scenic Clinton River and Lake Norcentra Park. The natural setting provides students with ample opportunities for biking, walking, running, relaxing, and other activities. Nearby Downtown Rochester offers a small town, community feel with shopping, restaurants, trails, holiday events, and more. Students living on or off campus can become involved in campus ministry, theatre, music, student publications, Greek Life, and more.

A Park on a River, Placemaking, and Pizza

One hundred and ninety-six years have passed by since Aaron Webster became the first permanent European settler along the banks of the Clinton River in what is now the City of Auburn Hills. He died of typhoid fever just two years later in the summer of 1823, but before his death he constructed a dam on the river that captured the power of the water’s flow to operate a saw mill.  The timber from his saw mill was then was used to build a grist mill to grind grain. That’s how Auburn Hills began.

Paddling the Huron River Water Trail

Oakland County has over 1,400 natural lakes, and headwaters of five major rivers: the Clinton, Flint, Huron, Rouge and Shiawassee Rivers. This is the story of a very small section of the 104 mile Huron River Water Trail, a beautiful river that rises from the Huron Swamp at Indian Springs Metropark. It then flows southwest through Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area, downtown Milford and Kensington Metropark before entering Livingston County and the Island Lake State Recreation Area. The river’s journey ends at Lake Erie. Continue reading
