Oakland County Recognizes Importance of Mental Health
Even before the outbreak of COVID-19, the number of Americans living with mental health issues was at a crisis level. That’s why Oakland County has invested nearly $13 million in a variety of services.

The county has allocated $8.5 million in grants, administered by the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, to non-profit agencies to help an additional 66,000 residents with critical counseling and care. Another $2 million is helping hospitals quickly evaluate people in their emergencies rooms and get them the care they need.
An additional $2 million went to support students, when the county established the Mental Health and Wellbeing School Partnership Program. In this program, Health Navigators work directly with Oakland County school professionals to increase mental health services—providing a safety net beyond the resources available at their local schools.
Oakland County works to ensure access to quality affordable health care, including mental health services, to improve health outcomes for all residents as part of the Healthy Residents goal in our five-year road map. Visit our dashboard to see the progress being made to mental health of community members, as measured by the percentage of young people who felt sad or hopeless in given time period.
