The world’s largest one-day automotive event is returning to Oakland County on Saturday, Aug. 15. More than 1 million visitors and over 40,000 classic, muscle, custom vehicles and collector cars will roll down historic Woodward Avenue (M-1) for the 31st Annual Woodward Dream Cruise.
Whether you are a lifelong gearhead, a first-time visitor or a resident looking to enjoy the local festivities, here is everything you need to know to make the most of this year’s cruise.
The Route and Community Highlights
The 16-mile cruise route stretches along Woodward Avenue through nine participating Oakland County communities: Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Huntington Woods, Royal Oak, Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township and Pontiac. Though the cruise takes place on Saturday, local host communities feature family-friendly events, emergency vehicle displays, live music and car shows all week long:
- Ferndale kicks off festivities early with the Emergency Vehicle Show, live entertainment and local food vendors along Nine Mile Road.
- Berkley is the host of the popular Classic Car Parade along 12 Mile Road, featuring hundreds of vintage vehicles cruising through neighborhood business districts

- Royal Oak is home to performance displays, manufacturer exhibits and family entertainment centers centered near Memorial Park and 13 Mile Road.
- Birmingham offers scenic spots along M-1, featuring classic car displays, sponsor hubs and shaded park areas perfect for lawn chairs.
- Pontiac marks the northern end of the cruise route, providing an iconic turnaround point and great spectating along Woodward Avenue.
Tips for Spectators
- Bring Your Lawn Chairs and Sun Protection: Spectating is free to the public. Set up early along the curb or in designated parking spaces in Ferndale, Royal Oak, Berkley or Birmingham.
- Utilize Public Transit: Traffic along M-1 and adjacent cross streets is heavily congested throughout the weekend. Consider using bus routes or park-and-ride options to navigate around the cruise corridors.
- Plan Around Road Closures: If you live near Woodward Avenue, plan for traffic delays.
- Stay Hydrated and Shop Local: Dozens of Oakland County small businesses, restaurants and outdoor patios along the route are open. Grab a bite from local eateries and hydrate frequently.
- Observe Local Ordinances: Cruising rules are strictly enforced by local public safety agencies. Remember that burnout displays, unauthorized lane closures and alcohol outside designated or licensed areas are prohibited.
