SmartFinance Academy, previously managed by Oakland County Michigan Works! as Financial Fitness, was transitioned to the Oakland County Treasurer’s Office in July 2025. Through the Treasurer’s Financial Empowerment Center, SmartFinance Academy provides financial education via monthly live webinars. Oakland County residents can explore a variety of topics, including budgeting, repairing credit, owning a home, property taxes, and growing small businesses.
SmartFinance Academy is based on five learning pillars:
- Financial Wellness Foundation: debt reduction, credit building and crisis-proof finances
- Lifelong Financial Wellness: empowered financial decision-making
- Homeownership and Housing: taxpayer confidence
- Small Business Resilience and Growth: self-employed success
