The third Wednesday of October marks Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day, a national observance created to raise awareness about the crucial role chambers play in sustaining, promoting and growing local businesses.

The Oakland County Board of Commissioners supports the efforts of local chambers of commerce throughout the county. Commissioners celebrate ribbon-cutting ceremonies and milestone achievements, and present proclamations and certificates of recognition to honor new businesses, anniversaries and other significant achievements. These recognitions celebrate local economic growth and highlight the county’s commitment to fostering a vibrant business community. Their active involvement helps raise awareness and strengthen partnerships between local governments and the business community.

Why Support Your Local Chamber Matters
Chambers of commerce have many roles:
- Advocate for policies that support local business interests
- Connect entrepreneurs, startups and established firms with mentorship and peer networking
- Provide training, education and resources, conduct market research and sponsor workshops.
- Bring government, business and community together
- Help small businesses get visibility and community support
By participating in Support Your Local Chamber Day, you help underscore that these organizations are essential pillars in your local economy and community.
