Rx Kids Expands Money Assistance Program for Hazel Park and Royal Oak Township Families

Rx Kids, in partnership with OLHSA (Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency) and Oakland County, has spread its “cash prescription program” into Hazel Park and Royal Oak Township, joining Pontiac and 9 other communities in Michigan.

Expectant parents/guardians may receive a one-time payment of $1,500 during the pregnancy and $500 per month throughout their baby’s first six months of life. The money does not need to be paid back.

To be eligible for Rx Kids, parents/guardians must meet all of the criteria below:

  • Must be a resident of Hazel Park or Royal Oak Township
  • Must be at least 18 years old OR 16 years old with parental or guardian consent
  • Must be at least 16 weeks pregnant OR the guardian of a baby 6 months old or younger and born on or after Sept. 1, 2025.

Parents/guardians can apply at https://rxkids.aidkit.org/apply/zxhqk?lang=en.

Applicants will need to upload documents that verify their identity, residency, and pregnancy/guardianship status, such as photo IDs, utility statements, and medical bills. For more questions, visit https://rxkids.org/contact/.

The launch of Rx Kids in Hazel Park and Royal Oak Township follows the success of the program in Pontiac. From May 1 to August 12, Rx Kids has:

  • Enrolled 319 Pontiac families, including 176 babies born into the program so far
  • Prescribed $693,000 in cash benefits directly to Pontiac families

Current data shows that participants use their new funds to pay for baby supplies, food, utilities, rent, and clothing.
