The Great Marshmallow Drop!

The Great Marshmallow Drop will be here soon! Mark your calendars for Friday, March 30th and head to Catalpa Oaks County Park in Southfield for this FREE family fun event with Oakland County Parks and Recreation. The fun begins at 10 a.m. and goes until noon.

Little kids and big kids will be delighted and amazed as a helicopter drops 15,000 marshmallows down from the sky. Children can collect a marshmallow and turn it in for a cool prize. If you haven’t experienced this event yet, add it to your bucket list and enjoy a creative twist on the typical Easter Egg hunt.

Marshmallows will be dropped three times to accommodate multiple age groups:

  • Ages 4 and younger, along with individuals with disabilities
  • Ages 5 – 7
  • Ages 8 – 12

This FREE event is presented by Oakland County Credit Union. Volunteers from Oakland County Parks and Recreation, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, and other community members will be on hand to help out with the festivities.

Oakland County Parks and Recreation’s The Great Marshmallow Drop is coming up soon! Mark your calendars for April 14th at 10 a.m. and get ready to have a fantastic time with your friends and family at Catalpa Oaks in Southfield.

Your little ones will be amazed and enthralled as a helicopter drops 15,000 marshmallows down from the sky. Children can collect one and turn it in for a prize. It definitely puts a fun and unique twist on your typical Easter Egg hunt. Marshmallows will be dropped three times to accommodate multiple age groups: ages 4 and younger, along with individuals with disabilities; ages 5 – 7; and ages 8 – 12.

No Snow? No Problem for Fire & Ice Festival!

In spite of unseasonably warm temperatures and no snow in the forecast, the Fire & Ice Festival in Rochester will fire up this weekend, Jan. 20th – 22nd. The festival, sponsored by Oakland County Credit Union, is replacing some of its winter-driven events with a variety of outdoor family-friendly activities from Oakland County Parks and Recreation. Admission and events will remain free.

“‘The show must go on,’ as they say in show biz,” said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. “Families from all over Michigan will still be able to experience many outdoor activities and the nice weather at the Fire & Ice Festival.” Continue reading

The 22nd Annual Q2 Awards

The 22nd Annual Q2 Awards Breakfast, hosted by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, was held this morning at the Centerpoint Marriot in Pontiac, MI. Quality People/Quality Awards recognizes individuals who contribute to the quality of life in Oakland County. Three honorees are chosen annually and are those that have utilized their own successes to improve the quality of life for others. On this year’s award winners, Patterson said, “This year’s Q2 recipients are among the quiet heroes who are driven to improve the world around them.”
