Memories Created in Oakland County at the Michigan State Fair

The Michigan State Fair brought over 100,000 people together at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi over Labor Day weekend. The annual event attracted people from all across the state for an exciting day full of fun for the whole family.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of thrilling Midway rides like the Orbiter and the Zipper while there was also a more relaxing Ferris wheel for everyone to enjoy. Food options were numerous with options varying from a Farmer’s Market to Elephant Ear stands. Musical acts delighted audiences throughout every day of the event.

Farmers from all over flocked to the event to proudly display their cows, sheep and other livestock to the eager attendees. Cows featured prominently throughout the fair as there was an exhibit in which people got to experience milking a cow and in return, they received an endless supply of chocolate milk for the day. The famous Michigan Butter Cow was back on display this year, where hundreds of pounds of butter were carved into a giant cow with a calf on her back.

Other highlights included a pumpkin carving contests in which contestants took giant pumpkins and shaped them into beautiful works of art. There were other contests where pumpkins were judged by size alone as contestants battled it out for who had the largest fruit. The winning pumpkin came in at a whopping 1298 pounds!

All kinds of contests from a timed pie eating race to an Oreo stacking game made for a day full of laughter and memories as people of all ages engaged in a bit of friendly competition. Youth scholarships were also handed out for a number of different categories including: Animal/Livestock, Home Arts and Agriculture, Urban Farming Youth, and more. Enjoy Labor Day with These Weekend Festivities
