The Oakland County Board of Commissioners kicked off National Safety Month with their annual Gun Safety Awareness press conference. The conference was a huge success and was attended by county officials, safety advocates, and over 30 local law enforcement agencies. It highlighted the importance of safe firearm storage in curbing gun violence and educated the public on the importance of means restriction in suicide prevention.

Gun Safety Awareness Press Conference in Recognition of June as National Safety Month in Oakland County

In recognition of June as National Safety Month in Oakland County, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will host their annual Gun Safety Awareness press conference, Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. The press conference will focus on the importance of safe gun ownership in preventing gun violence and will kick-off the Board’s annual gun safety lock giveaway, a program that promotes safe gun ownership by distributing free gun locks to the public via local police departments.

Lock-It-Up Oakland & Support Gun Safety Awareness!

Lock it up Oakland-01Support Gun Safety Awareness Day, now in its third year, with the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement and National Shooting Sports Foundation/Project ChildSafe in conjunction with the new Lock-It-Up Oakland program at three important upcoming events during the month of June for National Safety Month.

      • June 7th at 2:00 p.m. – Press Conference on the important issue of gun safety will be held in the Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac.
      • June 10th – Free Gun Safety Lock Giveaway courtesy of National Shooting Sports Foundation/Project ChildSafe in partnership with the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Study Group on Gun Violence.
      • June 7th – 21st – Dunham’s Sports will be giving 15% discounts for gun safe purchases and additional discounts by retail supporter, Safes and Guns Unlimited, will be offered when you mention Lock-It-Up Oakland. The Lock-It-Up Oakland committee also appreciates support from Costco and Sam’s Club.
