February is Responsible Pet Owners Month, and with Oakland County’s new Pet Resources Map, taking care of your critters is simpler than ever.

Shelters / Rescues

If you’re still looking for a new addition to the family, visit Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center or any of the other 56 shelters and rescues located in Oakland County.  Each is filled with loving animals looking for equally loving homes. With so many animals and locations out there, your future pet could be waiting just around the block.

Supplies

Proper care for any pet starts with the right gear. Whether it’s food, crates, tanks, or toys, the proper supplies will help keep your pet happy and healthy. Our Pet Resources Map can guide you to any of the 58 pet supply retailers in Oakland County.

Medical

Responsible pet owners know the value that medical care brings to the animals they love. Having your animal spayed or neutered lowers their risk of developing cancer and other deadly diseases. It’s also vital to take your pets to annual check-ups even if they seem healthy. Catching disease early and preventing severe illness spares both money and anguish further down the road. If you’re searching for veterinarian services, take a look at the 161 pet medical facilities on the Oakland County Pet Resources map.

Services

Even the most responsible pet owners sometimes need help with the care of their animal friends. Luckily for those in Oakland County, there is a wide variety of pet care service offerings. Here is a breakdown of the 472 (yes, 472!) animal service providers in Oakland County:

Renew your American Spirit and show patriotism for our country during Patriot Week. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has declared that Patriot Week will celebrated September 11-17th here in Oakland County. In 2009, Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his daughter, then ten years young, founded Patriot Week to renew “America’s spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other Patriots, vital documents and speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history.” Patriot Week is anchored by the key dates of September 11th, when nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives in terror attacks, and September 17th or Constitution Day, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution by the founders.
