Celebrate America’s First Principles During Patriot Week

Honor and celebrate America’s founding principles during Patriot Week. Started by Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his daughter in 2009, Patriot Week is a time to reflect upon the ideals, documents, and historical figures who represent the best of the United States. Patriot Week is bookended by two key dates. The week begins on September 11th, honoring the nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives in 2001, and ends on September 17th: Constitution Day.

Special events, ranging from solemn remembrances and intellectual discussions, to joyous festivities, will take place throughout the week. Patriot Week events culminate on September 16th with the 8th Annual Patriot Festival held at Bower’s Farm in Bloomfield Hills.  The free Festival will feature wagon rides, animals, and music. Visit the Breathtaking Cranbrook House & Gardens

From exquisite gardens, to a reflecting pool, and a stunning Japanese Garden, you’ll be enthralled with all that Cranbrook House and Gardens’ 40 acres of formal, woodland, and naturalistic gardens have to offer. The manicured gardens provide the perfect backdrop to the Cranbrook House, a National Historic Landmark and the oldest manor home in Metro-Detroit.

Admission for self-guided tours of the gardens is free from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily through October. Paid admission is required for tours of Cranbrook House and special events.

Gun Safety Awareness Press Conference in Recognition of June as National Safety Month in Oakland County

In recognition of June as National Safety Month in Oakland County, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners will host their annual Gun Safety Awareness press conference, Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. The press conference will focus on the importance of safe gun ownership in preventing gun violence and will kick-off the Board’s annual gun safety lock giveaway, a program that promotes safe gun ownership by distributing free gun locks to the public via local police departments.
