The phrase “student loan repayment” is often met with feelings of confusion. Policy changes, complex repayment plan options, a variety of servicers to choose from and simply not knowing the questions to ask can make the process of loan repayment a dizzying experience.
In Oakland County, more than 170,000 residents are carrying $6 billion in student loan debt. And many residents are trying to navigate through the process alone. To provide support for this journey the Oakland County Student Debt Relief Initiative, in partnership with Savi, was created in 2024 and the Oakland County Board of Commissioners has allocated funding for the program to run through 2026.
The initiative provides free registration for Oakland County residents and employees to utilize Savi services for one year. The Savi platform is designed to assist in navigating the repayment process, determining if a person is eligible for loan repayment programs, enrolling borrowers into appropriate plans and providing ongoing support.
Savi also offers frequent virtual town hall sessions to help borrowers keep up to date on the seemingly constant changes and offers a chance to ask questions.
With the wide sweeping changes coming to the student debt landscape this year, Savi is hosting a State of Student Debt webinar on February 25 at 4 p.m. ET and it is open to anyone. Reserve your spot by registering here.
