A Look Back at the 2025 Health and Housing Summer Fest

With more than 600 participants, Normandy Oaks Park in Royal Oak recently became a hub of health, fun, and community connection for our Health Division’s 2025 Health and Housing Summer Fest. From health and housing resources to back-to-school essentials, the event was a testament to Oakland County Executive David Coulter’s strategic goals, healthy residents.

Bringing Health Services Directly to You

The most significant impact was the volume of free health services provided on-site. Many residents benefited from this direct access to care:

  • Health care providers performed 101 vision screenings with 40 pairs of glasses given away through Vision to Learn.
  • University of Michigan completed 50 hearing screenings and 23 dental screens, providing essential back-to-school health checks for children.
  • More than 20 vaccinations were administered, as well as eight lead screenings.

Attendees enrolled in free health programs such as WIC, Nutrition, and home-visiting nursing, and spoke directly with the International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants.

Back-to-School Readiness and Family Fun

The event wasn’t just about health screenings; it was also about preparing our community’s children for success. The backpack giveaway was a huge success with 456 backpacks distributed to students. Courtesy of Dorsey Beauty School, 20 students received haircuts and styles, while 70 got manicures, sending them back to the classroom feeling confident and prepared.

Community members enjoyed raffles, music, bounce houses (provided by Oakland County Parks), a playground, and a splash pad to cool off.
