Celebrating Women’s History Month in Oakland County

The movement to recognize the accomplishments of women spanned generations and countries, and culminated in 1975 when the United Nations designated March 8 as International Women’s Day. In February 1980, President Jimmy Carter declared the Week of March 8 National Women’s History Week. Seven years later, Congress renamed it National Women’s History Month.
