Donate to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Coats for the Cold

Donations for the 32nd annual “Coats for the Cold” coat drive are being accepted until November 30th, 2019. Sponsored by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, gently-used or new coats can be dropped off at one of their drop-off sites around Oakland County. Donated coats will be sent to various local charitable organizations who distribute the coats to community members in need.

1-800-Self-Storage.com, is providing the boxes for coat drop-off sites around the county, and COWS (Container on Wheels Mobile Storage) is providing their portable storage units at drop-off sites as well.  Local Real Estate One offices, and all of the Genisys Credit Union branches throughout Oakland County will also serve as drop-off sites.

“Coats for the Cold is an easy way for the community to reach out and help someone less fortunate stay warm this winter,” Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said. “For the past 31 years, we have worked with local charitable organizations to provide free coats to those in need. The community’s generosity has been wonderful every year.”

Send Leftover Halloween Candy to Troops Serving Overseas during 10th Annual Treats for Troops

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is accepting individually wrapped, non-chocolate candy as part of its 10th annual “Treats for Troops” collection to send thanks, encouragement, and sweets to our troops overseas. Sheriff Michael Bouchard also encourages parents and children wishing to participate to include notes (thank you, holiday, etc.) to the troops with the donation. “Treats for Troops is a great way parents can participate in a community service project with their kids while showing our troops we support them back home,” said Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

Individually wrapped, non-chocolate candy will be accepted from Friday, November 1st through Tuesday, November 5th at 4:00 p.m. at the following Oakland County Sheriff’s Office locations:

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is accepting donations for the 31st annual “Coats for the Cold” coat drive from November 1st to November 30th. Clean, gently-used or new coats can be dropped off at one of their drop-off sites around Oakland County. All Oakland County locations of Real Estate One HQ and Genisys Credit Union are drop-off sites. Additionally, donors will receive up to $50 off the cost of a pet adoption ($10 per donated coat, up to five coats) at the Oakland County Pet Adoption Center.

The Great Marshmallow Drop!

The Great Marshmallow Drop will be here soon! Mark your calendars for Friday, March 30th and head to Catalpa Oaks County Park in Southfield for this FREE family fun event with Oakland County Parks and Recreation. The fun begins at 10 a.m. and goes until noon.

Little kids and big kids will be delighted and amazed as a helicopter drops 15,000 marshmallows down from the sky. Children can collect a marshmallow and turn it in for a cool prize. If you haven’t experienced this event yet, add it to your bucket list and enjoy a creative twist on the typical Easter Egg hunt.

Marshmallows will be dropped three times to accommodate multiple age groups:

  • Ages 4 and younger, along with individuals with disabilities
  • Ages 5 – 7
  • Ages 8 – 12

This FREE event is presented by Oakland County Credit Union. Volunteers from Oakland County Parks and Recreation, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, and other community members will be on hand to help out with the festivities.
