Donate to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Coats for the Cold

Donations for the 32nd annual “Coats for the Cold” coat drive are being accepted until November 30th, 2019. Sponsored by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, gently-used or new coats can be dropped off at one of their drop-off sites around Oakland County. Donated coats will be sent to various local charitable organizations who distribute the coats to community members in need.

1-800-Self-Storage.com, is providing the boxes for coat drop-off sites around the county, and COWS (Container on Wheels Mobile Storage) is providing their portable storage units at drop-off sites as well.  Local Real Estate One offices, and all of the Genisys Credit Union branches throughout Oakland County will also serve as drop-off sites.

“Coats for the Cold is an easy way for the community to reach out and help someone less fortunate stay warm this winter,” Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said. “For the past 31 years, we have worked with local charitable organizations to provide free coats to those in need. The community’s generosity has been wonderful every year.”

Donate to Forgotten Harvest, Every Pound Counts

Forgotten Harvest is one of the largest and most efficient food rescue organizations in the United States of America. The organization rescues fresh, nutritious surplus food and sends it to hungry communities. Last year, they rescued 45 million pounds of food that would have otherwise been wasted; each pound represents a meal enjoyed by a community member who needs it.

Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Coats for the Cold 2018

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is accepting donations for the 31st annual “Coats for the Cold” coat drive from November 1st to November 30th. Clean, gently-used or new coats can be dropped off at one of their drop-off sites around Oakland County. All Oakland County locations of Real Estate One HQ and Genisys Credit Union are drop-off sites. Additionally, donors will receive up to $50 off the cost of a pet adoption ($10 per donated coat, up to five coats) at the Oakland County Pet Adoption Center.

You can help to ensure that every family has food on the table this holiday season by donating surplus prepared and perishable food to Forgotten Harvest. Founded 27 years ago in Metro Detroit, Forgotten Harvest has grown to become the largest and most efficient food rescue organization in the United States.

Forgotten Harvest’s charitable footprint is massive in scale. The organization covers 2,000 square miles, distributing millions of pounds of food to 250 emergency food providers in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. Last year, Forgotten Harvest rescued 45 million pounds of food that would have been otherwise wasted. Each pound represents a meal enjoyed by community members in need.
