Outdoor Concerts and Movies Across Oakland County

The sounds and sights of music and film are set to be seen in parks across Oakland County this summer. From the pristine Riverside Park in Auburn Hills, to Shain Park in Birmingham, bands both local and well-known are prepared to play music of all genres from June through September. In addition, a multitude of parks such as Oxford Park and Jaycee Park in Berkley or Central Park in Milford are hosting movie nights for anyone to attend. 

Pick up a soft blanket, a pillow or two, a picnic basket of snacks, and use our list of outdoor summer concerts and movies to plan an evening of entertainment outdoors.

Fireworks Light Up the Sky in Oakland County

The Fourth of July is nearly here! All across Oakland County, communities are putting on firework displays in celebration of our country’s Independence Day. Visit Highland for their Red, White and Blues Festival on June 25th and stay for the fireworks, starting at dusk, or celebrate July 4th on the day itself in Holly at Lakeside Park. Wherever you decide to go, grab a blanket, pack a picnic basket, and get ready to shout, “OOH” and “AAH” at any of the many shows in Oakland County.

Nine Downtowns Honored During Main Street Oakland County’s Main Event

Highland Township’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA) captured the Spirit of Main Street award, as nine downtowns were honored on May 5 during Main Street Oakland County’s Main Event, a gala celebration recognizing excellence in Oakland County downtown and historic commercial corridor revitalization.

Main Street Oakland County (MSOC) is a unique economic development program for downtowns, with a historic preservation philosophy and an emphasis on “sense of place.” The program helps local government develop their downtowns as vibrant, successful districts that serve as the heart of their communities.

Black History Month Events in Oakland County

February is Black History Month! To learn more about Black history and culture, or gain awareness of the past, check out our list of events being held including musical and dance performances, interactive workshops, and more throughout the month of February in and around Oakland County.

This originally began as Negro History Week in 1926. In 1976, following the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, the weekly observance transformed into a month-long celebration. Since then, every U.S. president has issued a proclamation honoring the spirit of Black History Month.
