School is out and that means kids all around Oakland County are searching for fun activities to keep them entertained. Luckily, there are a wide variety of summer camps and outdoor entertainment happening in our area. Whether they’re interested in boating down a steady stream, hiking in the hills, crafting pieces of art, or practicing robotics indoors, communities in Oakland County have something for everyone.

The Fourth of July is nearly here! All across Oakland County, communities are putting on firework displays in celebration of our country’s Independence Day. Firework shows begin as soon as June 24th and conclude on July 8th. Visit the beautiful Kensington Metropark and witness a wonderful fireworks display on June 29th, or celebrate July 4th on the day itself at the Independence Festival in Clintwood Park in Clarkston.
Wherever you decide to go, grab a blanket, pack a picnic basket, and get ready to shout, “OOH” and “AAH” at any of the many shows in Oakland County.
The sounds and sights of music and film are set to be seen in parks across Oakland County, this summer. From the pristine Riverside Park in Auburn Hills, to Shain Park in Birmingham, bands both local and well-known are prepared to play music of all genres from June through September. In addition, a multitude of parks such as Community Park in Berkley or Central Park in Milford are hosting movie nights for anyone to attend.
Pick up a soft blanket, a pillow or two, a picnic basket of snacks, and use our list of outdoor summer concerts and movies to plan an evening of entertainment outdoors.
The Oakland County Board of Commissioners will recognize National Safety Month with their annual Gun Safety Awareness press conference on Tuesday, June 19th at 1:30 p.m. The conference will be attended by county officials, safety advocates, and over 30 local law enforcement agencies. It will highlight the importance of safe firearm storage in curbing gun violence, tragic accidents, and suicide.
The Board is partnering with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the Oakland County Health Division, and Oakland Schools to focus its efforts on school safety this year, with special attention directed toward Youth Suicide Prevention, Active Shooter Preparedness, and Anti-Bullying. Members of the public are invited to attend the press conference at the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Auditorium at 1200 N. Telegraph Road in Pontiac where free gun locks will be available.
