The Fire & Ice Festival in Downtown Rochester is back January 18th–20th for another year of family fun and winter festivities that you can enjoy for FREE. The three-day community celebration will be packed with events like tube sledding, ice skating, dog sled rides, cross-country skiing, ice sculptures along Main Street, fireworks on Friday and Saturday night, The Big, Bright Light Show, live music, TasteFest, and so much more!

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is accepting donations for the 31st annual “Coats for the Cold” coat drive from November 1st to November 30th. Clean, gently-used or new coats can be dropped off at one of their drop-off sites around Oakland County. All Oakland County locations of Real Estate One HQ and Genisys Credit Union are drop-off sites. Additionally, donors will receive up to $50 off the cost of a pet adoption ($10 per donated coat, up to five coats) at the Oakland County Pet Adoption Center.

Donated coats will be sent to various local charitable organizations who distribute the coats to community members in need.
“Coats for the Cold is an easy way for the community to reach out and help someone less fortunate stay warm this winter,” Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said. “For the past 30 years, we have worked with local charitable organizations to provide free coats to those in need. The community’s generosity has been wonderful every year.”
This year’s drive is sponsored by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with 1-800-Self-Storage.com, COWS (Container on Wheels Mobile Storage), Real Estate One, Genisys Credit Union, 105.1 FM The Bounce Detroit, and many other community organizations around Oakland County.

Summer’s coming to an end, but that means dogs all over Oakland County will be hoping their owners take them out for a doggy swim at Oakland County Parks and Recreation’s annual dog swim. Waterford Oaks and Red Oaks Waterparks will be open for dogs only on September 8th and 9th, respectively.

Join the Oakland County Animal Shelter this Saturday, May 5th for the BISSELL Empty the Shelter Adoption Event sponsored by BISSELL Pet Foundation. This event will take place at the shelter at 1200 N. Telegraph Road, building 42E, in Pontiac from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. All pet adoptions are FREE to qualified adopters (license fee required).

Now in its new, centrally-located facility on the Oakland County Government Campus, it’s easier than ever to stop in and adopt a new furry family member. Several dogs and cats are waiting for “furever” homes. You can view pets before you go by using their Petfinder page. The friendly and knowledgeable staff is ready and waiting to answer questions and share tools for responsible pet ownership. If you’re not yet ready to adopt, become a volunteer and help walk dogs, comfort cats, and more. The Pet Adoption Center is open Monday – Friday, 10 am – 5 pm, and on Saturdays, 10 am – 4 pm.
