Oakland County Skiing and Snowboarding at Alpine Valley

Alpine Valley, “Southeast Michigan’s Mountain of Fun,” is ready for riders! One of three ski areas in Oakland County, Alpine Valley welcomes skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels to its 24 trail runs, nine chairlifts, four rope tows, and magic carpet. Beginners can brave easier hills, freestylers can perform tricks in four terrain areas, and advanced riders can race on the same slopes as Oakland County Olympians. Everyone will find an exciting and entertaining activity to have fun and stay active during this time of year at Alpine Valley!

Located in White Lake Township, Alpine Valley is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Before you hit the slopes, check out this quick preview:

The Pines

Alpine Valley, known as The Pines, has 24 trail runs that range from beginner to expert and include four different styles of terrain parks designed for all experience levels. Freestyle skiers and snowboarders fly through the air and grind on rails to perform incredible feats at these parks. This year, Alpine Valley added five features to their terrain parks, including a 20’ flat box, a dog house jib pyramid, a 15’ tabletop hip jump, a 16’ urban lift tower tube, and 12’ lift tower tube bank. Programs and Activities

Snowboarders and skiers of all abilities can enjoy multiple programs and activities at Alpine Valley. Their “First Tracks” program teaches young athletes the basics of the two sports, and private lessons are offered for riders of all ages. Alpine Valley hosts an After School Ski and Ride program for schools as well. Several high school downhill ski racing teams call Alpine Valley home. In addition, Alpine Valley has racing programs for both adults and juniors.

Alpine Valley participates in the Michigan Snowsports Industries Association’s Cold is Cool program, which lets fourth and fifth graders ski at a discount. Parents can purchase a $20 passport that gives them multiple lift tickets or trail passes to over 25 ski areas, including three tickets for Alpine Valley. The passport also includes 20% off a helmet purchase and $20 off a $100 purchase at participating Michigan ski shops.

Oakland County Olympians

Multiple Olympic snowboarders from Oakland County practiced at Alpine Valley before making their Olympic runs: Danny Davis, Karly Shorr, and Kyle Mack. Before Danny Davis’ 10th place finish in the Men’s Halfpipe at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, he called Highland his hometown. Karly Shorr, a Milford High School graduate, earned 6th place in Women’s Slopestyle at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Kyle Mack, a West Bloomfield resident and Birmingham Brother Rice graduate, won the silver medal in the Men’s Big Air final at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

Alpine Valley is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Ski and snowboard their slopes, visit their lodge, and sip a cup of hot chocolate in the cafeteria for a break from the chilly air Adults can enjoy the Hornet’s Nest, a bar and grill above the lodge. Pay their ski shop a visit if you need to stock up on riding supplies before hitting the slopes again!
