Our Dancing Lights in Auburn Hills is a holiday sound and light spectacular. Located at 3111 Paramount Lane, this exciting display uses traditional Christmas lights that are programmed to dance along with music that you can listen to by tuning into 91.3 FM.
Get a sneak peek in our video before you go, and read on to hear the story of Our Dancing Lights, including how the holiday display started and expanded over the years, from its creator, Brent Waldrep. Check it out in person: Sunday–Thursday, 5:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday–Saturday, 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Display Features
Unique to Our Dancing Lights is their use of traditional Christmas lights instead of LEDs. Brent loves the way they look and enjoys adding his magic to make them dance. Programming the 90,000–100,000 lights to songs takes eight hours for every one minute of music.
There are many special elements and favorites to enjoy at Our Dancing Lights, but the show-stopping feature this year is the Mega Tree. In past years, it’s been 30 feet tall, but this year it’s 40 feet tall and has doubled the amount of lights on it!
Charity
For the past eight years, Our Dancing Lights has partnered with The Rainbow Connection, a charity that makes dreams come true for children with life threatening medical conditions. Last year, Our Dancing Lights had a record-breaking year and raised over $19,000 for The Rainbow Connection to grant two children’s wishes. They hope to break that record this year and grant more dreams to children that need it.
History
Brent has enjoyed decorating for Christmas for more than 30 years, and got his start by helping his father decorate his childhood home. Continuing the Christmas decorating tradition in his current home, he had a static display the first year but wanted to do something fancier. His display has been growing ever since, and now Brent’s son is carrying on the tradition by helping quite a bit.
Our Dancing Lights was happy to be featured on the Oakland County Holiday Lights Map. Brent shared, “I think it’s a great thing that Oakland County is doing to let people know where the good light displays are in the county. It brings more people here, allows us to share with more people, and hopefully helps the Rainbow Connection.”
The display has also been the grand prize winner in the Griswold Lightacular Challenge, a national contest sponsored by Old Navy to find the home that best channeled the Griswold holiday spirit.
