Be a part of Forgotten Harvest’s mission to end hunger by volunteering your time. Forgotten Harvest accommodates groups, families, and individuals, and offers many different ways to help. Did you know they need up to sixty volunteers every day, six days of the week? With so many volunteer opportunities available, you’ll have no problem finding ways to give your time and join them in their mission to relieve hunger!
Take a look at our video to learn more and get a firsthand glimpse at how you can help.
Serving Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb Counties, Forgotten Harvest “rescued” 40.9 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from 800 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors, and other Health Department-approved sources. The donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless and domestic shelters, children’s homes, senior centers, and group homes.
Forgotten Harvest is in need of volunteers all year round. Bring your co-workers for an afternoon of team bonding or bring a school group to fulfill service hours. If your kids are age twelve and older, sign up as a family and enjoy the experience together. Visit the Forgotten Harvest Volunteer page for more information or to register for a volunteering event online. We’re sure you’ll enjoy being part of Forgotten Harvest’s Rescue Team and leave feeling that you got more out of it than you gave. Giving back truly does feel good!
