Run the Race, The Brooksie Way!

This year, the original Brooksie Way course is back and it’s more runner friendly than ever before! The Brooksie Way is one of many memorable races in Oakland County and is considered to be one of Oakland County’s premier quality of life events.

The 13.1 mile ‪‎Brooksie Way route takes ‪‎runners on a scenic journey through established neighborhoods, Paint Creek Trail systems and charming Downtown Rochester. Racers finish with a breathtaking view of historic Meadow Brook Hall & Gardens. The Brooksie Way also offers a 5K and 10K race/walk on the beautiful grounds of Oakland University.

This year’s 2016 Brooksie Way will take place on Sunday, September 25th and is set to begin at 8 a.m. Runners and walkers can pick up their race packets at the Brooksie Way Fitness Expo on Friday, September 23rd and Saturday, September 24th at Oakland University. At the Expo, participants will find fitness information, products from sports and nutrition retailers and more.

The Brooksie Way is a family-friendly event and even has races for the kids. Sign them up for the Diaper Dash, Toddler Trot or Big Kids Race, all taking place on Saturday, September 24th.

Race proceeds support programs that encourage a healthy, fit and active lifestyle and are distributed through Brooksie Way Minigrants. Since 2010, the HAP Brooksie Way has been able to donate $160,000 to Oakland County non-profit organizations.

The first annual race was held in October 2008 and was named in honor of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson’s son, Brooks Stuart Patterson. Brooksie, as he was known to his family and friends, died in 2007 after a tragic snowmobile accident. Brooksie’s lasting legacy is the exuberance with which he lived his life, the passion he had for family and friends and his dreams for the future. That’s why the race was named in his memory, “The Brooksie Way.”

Register here to run or walk The HAP Brooksie Way Half Marathon, 5K, and 10K, the course named one of Michigan’s most scenic races by MLive. Watch for registration price breaks on Thursdays in August too!
